Why We Like Elk Range Mining
A century of small family operations mined what they could see at Friday. Elk is the first to bring the Australian approach: drill hard, map the whole system and build a resource. With around 386 historical holes and a foreign resource estimate already on the books, the first job is converting that work to JORC standard. The second is chasing the gold the old timers never reached.
The mine, mill, roads and camp are already paid for, so Elk’s money goes into the ground instead of infrastructure.
Why Gold?
Central banks have spent two years swapping the money they print for the one thing nobody can print. Gold has overtaken US Treasuries as the world’s number-one reserve asset, and nearly nine in 10 central banks say they plan to buy more.
The buying traces back to debt. Washington is closing in on US$40 trillion of it, and the annual interest bill now costs more than the entire US military.
America has also started funding the gold mines it wants built. The US Export-Import Bank wrote a US$2.9 billion loan for Perpetua Resources’ Stibnite project this year, in the same state Elk calls home.
Elk Range Mining's Friday Gold Project
Friday sits on the Orogrande Shear Zone, a deep structure that fed gold up through the crust and left deposits along it like beads on a wire. Elk holds kilometres of the wire, with the Buffalo Gulch and Deadwood prospects along the same trend.
The first 3,000 metres of drilling go in from surface, aimed at the high-grade zones in the old records. The next 3,000 get drilled from inside the mine, using the underground development the last owner paid for, which keeps the program running through the Idaho winter. Part of the ground sits on patented leases, effectively private ground, so drilling needed no further permits.
The drilled structure at Friday runs about a kilometre and stays open in both directions, with surface work tracing the wider system along a 3km trend.
The Key Points of Interest
- A permitted Idaho gold mine that was producing five years ago
- More than US$40 million spent by the last owner, with mill, roads and camp included
- $10 million in cash, nearly all of it for drilling
- Historical hit of 110m at over 5g/t gold, never followed up
- Three deposits along kilometres of the Orogrande Shear Zone
ELK in Summary
Elk Range Mining listed with a built mine and a funded drill program, run by a board that has taken juniors to serious gold names before. A century of Americans proved the gold is there. The job now is working out how much of it there is.
